Lucy the Koala Joey
Age: 8 months
Found: Lucy was found all alone on a suburban driveway in Burpengary, Queensland.
Transported to: The Australia Zoo Rescue Unit rushed Lucy to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.
Veterinary Assessment: Poor Lucy was severely dehydrated and to make matters worse, was covered in weed seeds and was also suffering from chlamydial conjunctivitis.
Treatment: With no time to waste, Dr Rosie administered intravenous fluids and medication and transferred Lucy to the Intensive Care Unit for recovery.
Outcome: Lucy is receiving lots of TLC from the Hospital Team and her condition is improving every day. As she is orphaned, Lucy will need to be raised by a specialised wildlife carer until she reaches independence and is ready for release back into the wild.
AZWH Fact: Koala joey’s are furless and only 2cm long when they are born!
