COVID-19 Support for Apprentices & Trainees
As many of our customers are in trades and field services, I felt that some clarity around the Apprentice subsidy part of the Stimulus Package would be useful.
In summary:
1) Employers will be able to apply to have 50% wages paid to apprentices reimbursed up to maximum covering the period from 1 January to 30 September 2020.
2) The maximum reimbursement is $21,000 per apprentice ($7,000 per quarter).
3) Employers will have less than 20 full time employees including apprentice(s).
4) The apprentice must have been on payroll at 1 March 2020 (exception Item (5) below)
5) If an apprentice is unable to be retained by an Employer in the coming months, and another Employer hires them, the subsidy will transfer to the new Employer onwards.
6) Access to the subsidy is upon an assessment for eligibility by an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network provider (AASN).
7) Registration will be from early April 2020 and claims must be lodged by 31 December 2020.
For our tradies who employee Apprentices, we will be in touch to assist you with the registration process as soon as it becomes available by AASN.
Please stay tuned for further summaries and general advice to our customers on how to approach the COVID-19 period ahead.
